What are stem cells?

Stem cells are cell develop in animal which is plastic in nature and differentiated into types of cells. All other cells with specialized function are generated under the proper microenvironment in body.
One stem cell can produce one stem cell replica and one other type of cell which can be further differentiated and develop into cell line. Stem cell have ability to self- renew, differentiation, plasticity (moldability)

History of stem cells

In 19th century Theodor Boveri and Valentin Haecker coined the term stem cell. They both are zoologist.(Pic 2)


Artur Pappenheim was first discover the theory of blood stem cells in 20th century. He was a German haematologist. (Pic 3).
Georges Mathe was perform the bone marrow transplant using stem cell therapy in 1958.he was oncologist and immunologist.(Pic 4)
Ernest McCulloch and James Till. define the main properties of stem cells. In 1960s at university of Toronto. They also discover the blood forming stem cell and hematopoietic stem cell.(Pic 5)
In 1981 Martin Evans and Matthew Kaufman isolate the embryonic stem cell and culture it in mouse blastocysts. (Pic 6)
In 2006 Shinya Yamanaka convert the fibroblast into pluripotent stem cell by modifying the expression of genes. He win a Nobel prize. (Pic 7)

Introduction to Genetics As the name suggests, it is related to genes. Genetics is the study of genes, genetic variation and Heredity in living organisms. It is a very important branch of bio sciences or life sciences. DNA For maintenance of species and their continuity living organisms reproduce. Mendel's Experiment and his laws 2

Mendel performed three experiments- 1. Monohybrid cross 2. Dihybrid cross 3. Trihybrid cross We will study two of them first in this article. 1. Monohybrid cross  It is a cross between two pure individuals(Parents) which are homozygous in which inheritance pattern of only one pair of contrasting characters is studied. Procedure of experiment- Step 1-Selection of parents and obtaining pure lines He selected pure tall pea plant as female plant(TT) and pure dwarf pea plant as a male parent(tt). He confirmed that the plants are true breeding by selfing them for three generations. Step 2-Artificial cross of the selected plants to raise F1 generation He then performed artificial cross, collected seeds, sowed them and waited for the results. He had expected that either the offspring's would be of intermediate height or 50% of them will be tall and 50% of them will be dwarf. But amazingly all were tall and dwarfness disappeared.
